| Superman: The Man Of Steel #115 | |
A Review by Brad Bolt Writers: Mark Schultz, writer · Artists: Doug Mahnke, pencils One of the most enjoyable reasons for reading the 'Our worlds at War' storyline is the slow burn up to this point. Most big event or cross over plots start with a big bang and then gradually fizzle out, not so this one. The 'OWAW' storyline has only just kicked into life. Superman awakes and finds that
he and everyone else in metropolis have been transported to an alien spaceship.
Here rather than show the upright violence and chaos that would truly
happen, the writers decide to show a small amount, which was probably
the right choice as we see enough to make it believable. What we have seen of him so far has just been scouts and probes; the real guy eats whole suns and planets. Superman agrees to help and returns to Metropolis to get his 'bits and bobs'. That's when the fun starts, unfortunately it is also where this issue ends. Doug Mahnke, the former Mask comic series artist, does great work here and the writing is crisp and clear, with a couple of cool new catchphrases appearing (I hope). So the Superman comics continue to great better and better, with quality artists, original writers and punchy plotlines. Just a small gripe though, prepares we can wait awhile before we have another galaxy monster roaming the skies with only Earth to stop it, this must be at least the third one in recent history, that is very bad luck. |
