The Kingdom A Review |
|
How to follow up most of the most popular and most talked about Superman stories of the modern age? That was the task. The Kingdom was the result and was it worth it? Well, it isn't a patch on Kingdom Come, but what could be? Written by the original author of "KC", Mark Waid, the story is faultless, Superman hunted and punished over and over again by a seemingly indestructible Gog. Unfortunately, what lets the story down is the variable artwork, while Alex Ross beautifully painted Kingdom Come, an army of pencilers and inkers worked on this title. Which gives the finished work an uneven look, not to say that the artwork is bad, every page is never less an adequate and some sections are impressive in their story telling. It is just that the story seems to be a little disjoined in places, but I suppose that is to be expected as it was originally published over seven comics. That quibble aside and although it is in no way another Kingdom Come, it is a above average read and well worth a look. |
