Very popular but full of gaping plot holes is the final verdict on mega popular ID4. But back then we did not care. We warmed to Bill Pullman as the US president, Will Smith as the maverick but good natured, top gun fighter pilot and Jeff Goldblum as the mathematics genius, saving the world from the evil, bug eyed aliens.

Okay, the characters are 2 dimensional at best, the plot (what there is of it) is flimsy and straight out of a b-movie, and the less said about the toe curling presidential speech the better. But it was the effects that we wanted to see and we weren't to be disappointed, and they still look quite impressive four years on.

A B-movie, popcorn classic.
