Jurassic Park III

a review by Bobbi Sinha-Morey

"Jurassic Park III" is much better than the second one. Not only does it
have more of a real story, but the characters are better as well. Sam Neill stars in this once again and without a doubt he is the best character in here. Cast as paleontologist Dr. Grant, he serves to educate everyone on the behavior of raptors and comes across as quite an authority on the subject. We are also introduced to his lady love, played by Laura Dern, again, and I was hoping she would come along for the adventure as well, but no so. She stays home while he goes off with Mr. and Mrs. Kirby whowant ot rescue their osn and his friend from the dinosaur infested wilderness. Mrs. Kirby, ala, isn't too bright. And, as expected, they run into trouble the moment their airplane crashes down. A dinosaur jostles them around, and before you know it numerous chase scenes abound.

The close- ups of the dinosaurs are truly frightening. Moreover, we are given glimpses of how raptors behave when they are threatened by predators and how they coordinate their efforts and communicate with each other as Dr. Grant mentioned. While it's basically simple to understand, it's good that we are being educated on a subject that draws such a fascination.

In addition, you come to know the characters. Small details such as Mr.
Kirby saying he lost weight by swimming, him sharing humorous memories with his son, Mrs. Kirby's genuine caring, and Dr. Grant's educational background all add
up to creating people who we come to like. Dr. Grant even had the interesting line: "It's the best intentions that can cause the worst trouble." It was when he was referring to the dinosaur eggs that had been stolen.

Other small things like Eric camouflaging himself in leaves and finding
a water truck to hid himself in suggest survival skills. The others try to survive by drinking water and climbing trees. They even have to sense to take the fallen parachute for possible use later on. What I didn't like was seeing the big commotion Mrs. Kirby made over seeing the rotting corpse of Eric's stepfather. It came across as hysterical nonsense. And while it was an emotionally charged climax when she and Mr. Kirby are reunited with their son, I could've died when realizing it was because a dinosaur had swallowed their cellular phone. Plus the phone had an annoying jingle every time it rang.

Otherwise there are some honestly good scenes. The pterodactyls inside
the giant aviary are what stood out in my mind the most. When Eric is snatched
inside a pair of talons and dropped into a perilous situation the danger
intensifies. Everyone is chased this way and that in their efforts to swim away, and what soon follows is a tiny cliff-hanger. Mr. Kirby survives his ordeal, but overall it isn't too surprising. And if you look close enough you'll notice the words "Dino Soar" written on the underside of the hang-glider. The pterodactyls are something to see though, including the other rare dinosaurs we get to see when Dr. Grant and the others are going down the river. The scene is lovely. And, for that matter, there are several good scenes when dinosaurs are fighting each other, running, chasing, and attacking their prey.

Although the movies does have kind of a foreseeable ending, all those things
that improve "Jurassic Park III" make it a thrilling adventure well worth seeing.
